I happened to watch “Bride and Prejudice" the other day. In one word – doomed. Never have I seen a movie so badly cast that from the minute go yu know it would never amount to anything. Very little of the true nature of Darcy and Elizbeth have been brought out by their type casts. Aishwarya simply has no personality and it shows on screen ! Having seen the vain attempt of the movie, I felt it onkly right for me to read the novel in order to give an educated review and more importantly have a better foundation for condemning the movie. But hardly had I read the first 100 pages, that I didn’t know which was worse…..the empty characterization of the movie or the verbose convoluting 17th Century English dialogue of the Book! I mean just getting through one sentence was hard without paraphrasing the whole thing again in my mind just to get out its meaning.
Don’t get me wrong … the book is good, the characters beautifully defined and the story interesting, but I’d prefer a much condensed, more direct approach. And while that may have been Gurinder Chadda’s aim in making the movie…the outcome was rather disappointing....I wonder if there is a Hollywood version of the movie floating around?
