Fate or The Easy Road ?

A recent study shows that Indians believe that they are least in control of their lives. I began to wonder “Are we so helpless because of our ancient concept of “Fate:… that certain things are just written in the stars and should not be fought, or are we using the “Fate” concept as a crutch, so that we don’t have to stand up for ourselves. Its not too difficult to see where and how we’ve developed such an accepting and uncomplaining attitude. In fact even today when the destitute farmer looks up to an unforgiving sky, he is more than aware about how little he can control his only means of income. As the battered housewife takes yet another blow from her intoxicated husband, she is painfully aware that this in fact is her only safe place in a relentless world. It’s not too difficult to see why these people choose the path of least resistance. But India has changed and there are many among us with the education and the means to take on the world. And yet, we seem to hold on to our past. We seem to hold on to the concept that we can’t have what we want, when in fact it’s just one less trodden path away.  Maybe its time to break loose….
