Television Is Back !

After a long line of dull reality TV shows, the english television scene seems to be back with a vengeance. 'Desperate Housewives' is all the rage.  It is undoubtedly well made but seems  ridiculously over-rated.  For one, I don’t really see it falling into the indian context, considering that three of the desperate housewives are struggling with issues of extra-marital affairs. Not quite the problems that our 'saas bahus' face! At least not in suburban India.  'Huff' is one of HBO’s original creation and has totally lived up to the mighty HBO name. Not only is the serial gripping, it so beautifully depicts the plague of a civilized world - emptiness. It’s almost as if there is no other step in evolution left and the story of evolution has started a declining curve that could end in our self destruction. But in true Hollywood style there are enough elements of humanity in the show to allow for hope. Then of course, there is 'Lost' my personal favourite.  In my opinion it is one of the best serials to hit the tube in the last decade. A plane crash, an assorted group of survivors marooned on an isolated island: a perfect recipe for an exciting drama. Oh and drama there is! Plenty of it and so much more…With a brilliantly thought of ‘flashback’ method – that introduces each character to you slowly arousing your curiosity with each passing serial. Now that’s what I called great television !
