Saturday morning saw me putting on my dancing shoes and dance. There are few things in life that I like more than dancing. The dance for the day was Rrumba! For those of you who’ve never heard of the dance before, let me explain it better. Rumba is like a slow Salsa. And for those who have never heard of Salsa before, let’s just say that it’s the dance you would do if you were dancing to the “la bamba”. And if you don’t know the “la bamba”, well , all i can say is that you are missing something!!
What I liked most about the dance is the quaint names all the individual moves have. There is a step called 'The New-York' and one called the 'Cucaracha'. And it’s also incredible how the individual steps come together in any random fashion to produce a fluid unbroken motion. It’s almost sensual ..
The classes are conducted in a great way. All the girls form an inner circle and the guys an outer circle. Basically you move from one partner to the next, each time adjusting your style to suit the partners learning level. For instance, if the person i am paired with is a beginner it gives me a chance to practice the basics again. If however, the person i am paired with is in an advanced class I get the chance to learn something new or he simply does a step i am familiar with. It keeeps everything fresh and spontaneous.
The music is slow and sensual. A great song to dance the rumba to would be 'Besame Mucho' or 'Guantanamera'.
Here's a video on how its' done:
So have I made you want to dance yet ?? :)
